My family and I have been coming to Ginza after a few disappointing sessions at Sushi Town.

We enjoy the service as it is more personalized. The English is sometimes not up to par and there can be confusions. One male waiters has a very short fuse if you don't understand him.

Food is standard Korean owned sushi. Too much imitation crab and rice used as a filler. They have a large display of specialty sushi rolls which I find to just be hyped up regular rolls with imitation carb meat used agin to fill.  Bit there are a few good rolls and you just have to find them.
We usually order the Maki tray and then add on extra rolls and a soup or teriyaki.

The place is small and it fills fast on Weekends and dinner time.

I guess this is one of the go to places for sushi in PoCo area.  There's a huge selection of rolls and they are all very creative with amusing names like Tarantula, Buddha, etc.  I like it here as they also have an extensive selection of cooked foods.  Their bento boxes for lunch are really good value. The takoyaki was just so so, but at least it was served hot.  Service was friendly and attentive.

SK's review from Feb 2018 is spot on, but I'd go easier on them with a 3.6 rating.

Ginza Japanese 'style' restaurant on Oxford St in Poco last evening was a busy place when we 4 arrived for our 730pm reservation.

There was a queue of young people waiting to be seated, and the kitchen was pumping out an array of colourful platefuls of sushi like offerings. It's NOT a traditional Japanese restaurant, in fact I never spotted a Japanese person anywhere on the premises, so IF that's what one is looking for, avoid.

IF however, you want a good meal 'in the style', GINZA is slightly better than average for this part of the world.

My dining companions opted for the colourful rolls with fancy names. I tasted a bit of everything, but MY order was SASHIMI, the DX plate @ 20 bucks, allegedly a deluxe selection, chef's choice.

I'M TRADITIONALIST in the sense that I wish to TASTE the fresh fish, uncluttered by too much else.
Ginza's colourful rolls have lots of mayo like stuff, sweetish sauces, and chili peppers etc. NOT my thing, so I 'stick with my knitting'.

Sashimi DX (stands for deluxe, I was informed) selection had some good moments, and the tuna was fresh and tasty, generous amount, ditto salmon. Tiny serve of razor clam ok, tako (octopus) very average, HUGE amount of shredded daikon radish dwarfed everything else, a few salad leaves, no wasabi? wassup?

No uni (sea urchin eggs) in the restaurant. period.
(Too tuff to stock, said the spokesman)

In a general sense, the sashimi dish was fine / fresh / enjoyable, but hardly 'deluxe'.
Price point of 20 bucks = nothing to complain about, just not 'special'.

Gluten free soya sauce at extra cost, and a wasabi with pickled ginger dutifully arrived later, as did warm green tea.

My companions ordered a cold sake which was 'industrial' quality.
They enjoyed their colourful roll selections, and I sampled at least one of everything.
Nothing to write home about imho.... but better than average in this local market.....

    Service:

Really good making reservation, answered telephone promptly, seated quickly upon arrival & bypassed the queue at door.

Friendly and chatty table server, we got an UNSOLICITED apology (we said nada, old friends enjoying our time together as we waited) for slowness in serving the food, and an offer of miso soup 'on the house', AFTER food was consumed.
So, management KNOW they have an issue there, but it never concerned us.
Promptly seated spot on 730pm for reservation of 730pm, though no food / drink for 45 minutes.

    Dear management:

IF u r running slow with food, suggest serve DRINKs quickly?
(we had an empty table for 45 mins+)
If u r REALLY concerned, put out complimentary nibbles or snacky things, but why wait 90 minutes into proceedings to bring up the 'subject'?

Offering an item we didn't order, don't particularly want,
(and for good reason because it wasn't particularly good, and I didn't consume after tasting) = strange daze in Poco town.

    Conclusion:

Clean tidy venue, friendly service, sushi 'nouveau' formula with a nod to the traditional, a Japanese 'style' food experience which seems to be popular with the locals.
    Value fair.
    Quality good, not astounding.
My assessment is 3.6 stars rounded up to 4 on this forum.

Always good. Been going there for years! My favourite rolls are the cowboy roll and the Viking roll. I also like that their California rolls don't have cucumber. Probably just cause I don't like it lol.
